Instead you can get 7 stations all with their own varying and
entertaining content. These are the very same channels that people
watch in France on their normal televisions. In other words, what you
get is the equivalent of BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 etc.
This
massive content provides a wealth of information and entertainment,
which is also perfect for use as a tool to learn French. As soon as
you have got your French TV system installed you will be over the
moon!
Here is a summary about each of the French TV channels you can
receive. The links take you directly to the official station websites
where you can get more information about the channel and access
information on the current programming schedules.
(Note:
I am currently giving away a free video with my French TV For Free
guide in which I take you to my favourite website for French TV
listings)
TF1
This could be considered
the equivalent of BBC1. It has a good balance of films, music,
documentaries and series etc. Example of programs include the French
equivalent of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (Qui Veut Gagner Des
Millions?) and Pop Idol (Star Academy). They play a lot of good films
of different types such as Bridget Jones' Diary, Terminator 3 and
Tais-Toi (a French comedy).

France 2
This
station has a lot of
French programming, as opposed to USA dramas dubbed in French. It has
some interesting political programs but also shows films and
documentaries. One of it's strong points is its "report" style
programs, similar to Despatches in the
UK. Something to look out for is the program called "Ca
se Discute" which is a topical discussion program and is very useful
to expose you to everyday French language and to improve your
vocabulary.

France 3
Again here
we have a nice range of programming with both French and USA origin
items. You get quality dramas such as NYPD Blue mixed in with info
programs and news and sports etc. Plenty of content to keep you
interested.

Arte
Arte is
the perfect channel for the documentary buff. It shows many
documentaries of both French and German origin. The German programs
are dubbed into French but sometimes they are shown in the original
language but with French subtitles. You can learn a lot from watching
this channel and you will get a lot of enjoyment from it.

France 5
This is
similar to the other "France" channels in its programming. It has
plenty of interesting programs ranging from news to documentaries and
discussion programs.

M6
M6 is a great channel for less serious viewing. It
is choc full of great entertainment programs such as
music, films, comedies and chat shows. You are bound to find numerous
programs that you like on this channel. If it's entertainment that you
are looking for, then you will find it on
M6.

Canal+
Canal+ is
a great film and sports channel. It is scrambled most of the time but
it does have periods when the station is free to air. As well as films
and sports, it has some great comedy and satirical programming.
